Please meet Krystle, one of the nicest and friendliest bloggers I have met and with the most creative rating system! every time I see it I smile BIG
D: When and why did you start book blogging?
K: I started a blogging about a year and a half ago, and my reason behind it was all wrong because I did it for the free books. lol
The funny thing is, I mainly read books that I pay for now, and I blog because I absolutely love it. It’s so challenging and allows me to be creative, learn new things, and meet some great people.
D: I love your blog’s name. What inspired it?
K: It’s a combination of my name, “Krystle” and my love of cookies. I just played with the somewhat strange spelling of my name and out popped Kookie Krysp Reads.
D: What blogs/bloggers inspired you when you started?
K: Cameron a.k.a. The Book Movie Guy runs a YouTube vlog, and is the one who suggested I start a blog in the first place.
Fei Fei from the Book Vigilante Reviews was super helpful when I started blogging and put up with all my newbie questions.
And Giselle from Xpresso Book Tours was also willing to answer a lot of my questions and she is just an all around sweetheart of a person.
D: How do you think growing up “as an Air Force brat” (big smile here too!) influenced your blogging style?
K: Mainly, it helps me adapt to just about any situation and enjoy a wide variety of things.
D: I think we have similar review philosophies, we like to be honest but constructive. How do you go about reviewing books you really didn’t like?
K: First and foremost, I try to tell people why the book didn’t work for me instead of trying to convince them not to read it. I personally don’t like love triangles so I may not like a book that involves one, but another reader might. So instead of bashing the book, I simply review it.
At least, I do this most of the time. I have been known to rant when a book was really painful to finish. lol
D: You have great interview section. How do you go about choosing the author you interview and the questions you ask?
K: Aw, thanks for the compliment!
Sometimes an author will come to me and ask to be interviewed, but lately, I do most of the asking. After I finish a book I like, I just go to the author’s website and ask if they will let me interview them. I’ve actually gotten to interview a few of my favorite authors this way.
When it comes to questions, I try to focus on the author’s book for most of the interview, and then end by asking a few fun things so people can get to know them better.
D: Besides reviews and interviews you have so many fun events and features… blitz, cover reveals… which one is your favorite and why?
K: Blitz are definitely my favorite because they are a fun way to let people know about great books, and sometimes I even get to give away a copy. I love them!
D: I learned you don’t like to “limit (your) potential for personal growth and entertainment” but I think most of us book bloggers take a break from some genres that we “over-read”. E.g. I’m taking a break from paranormal romance now. Are you taking a break from a genre?
K: I went through a “Gory Horror” phase last year, and I need a long break from it now. I still read Horror, but I learned I can’t really handle the gory stuff.
D: what advice would you give to new bloggers like me?
K: Focus on having fun. I know it sounds cliche, but that is honestly the best advice I could give. If your aren’t having fun blogging, you will want to quit at least twice a month.
D: What is your favorite social media and why?
K: Goodreads is my favorite by far. It is social media with a purpose, and that purpose is books. Since I love books, it’s my favorite place on the internet. I’ve also met some great people on that site.
D: Who should I interview next and what questions should I ask that blogger?
K: Um… I would pick Lizzy the Sarcastic Blond. And I want to know who her favorite “book boyfriend” is.
