What a Week [17] – my sliders… my weakness!

WhataWeek1

What a week last week was!

Welcome to my weekly wrap up!

The last two weeks have been all work, work and work (like in LOTS of work) 🙁

I was too tired to write anything! 🙁

It wasn’t a writer’s block, just exhaustion. Ideas would come to my mind but I had no motivation or energy to write whatsoever. Funny that would happen the week I posted 10 ways to stay motivated. I thought… it would be pretty ironic if my own tips didn’t work for me! lol

So, I reread a few pages of my novel and managed to write about two pages more. Yup. That was pretty much it. 🙂

Then I got to the end of the list, item 10, Give up! and do something that is related to your project 🙂 I worked a bit on my novel’s plot, formatted some posts, and… of course… played with my blog design! 🙂

The low quality of the images of the bootstrap slider (the one under the main menu) had been driving me crazy for weeks now so I created new sliders. Though they are of better quality they are smaller (in bytes) so the website loads faster now.

I also created new icons that take readers to my four features: Otherworld, EschatonXX Factor and Disturbia.

What do you think of the new slides of my bootstrap slider???

I think I love them.. for now 🙂 The problem is I can’t go through my blog design wish list without adding more wishes! 🙂

I’m not happy with the way the post slider truncates the images either (the one that shows the most recent book reviews under the bootstrap slider). I asked for help in the WordPress tech support forum and Denzel, a WordPress developer, was very kind to give me a CSS code to resize the post slider images. Denzel also showed me how to set up more than one carousel slider (the one in my sidebar that shows “Next Reviews”)!

I seems now that I could have as many carousel sliders as I want!!! whooohooo 🙂 I’m soooo excited! So, this week I’ll be trying Denzel’s code and tips. The possibilities are endless! I don’t even know where to start! a “Want to Read” slider? a “Fabulous Covers Gallery” slider? a “Favorite Blogs” slider?… I wonder if readers will get dizzy when the visit my blog? LOL 🙂

What about you? What is your obsession with your blog design? Is it the header? The side bar? The menus? or maybe the banner and button? Amy @A Novel Start just got a new banner and button and they look great! She also got the new version of the UBB which reminds me… I’m getting it for my birthday! just a few more days and I’ll be part of the Ashley@NoseGraze wonderful world of UBB.

Also last week…

  1. How lovely to find a helpful developer – yay for Denzel! I’m not game to do too much to my blog for fear of breaking it after having some trouble recently. I do project management work for a tech company and if pushed the guys would help me but I hate asking. I offered to pay last time but whatever one of them did took seconds, so… And I like the new sliders!

I know what you mean about the motivation vs having the headspace to do anything. I’ve been like that. It’s not that I’ve been working long hours but I think suddenly doing ‘work’ stuff after a break has made it harder for me to get stuck into my own writing. I’ve started posts, so it’s not like I don’t have ideas… it’s just the follow-through that has me struggling!

  2. I like the sliders, I think they are good. Hopefully this work is less work and more writing Hope your week is excellent, and happy reading!

  3. I have been the same, no motivation whatsoever!

Enjoy having the UBB, I am not jealous at all!!!

  4. I love the design of your blog! But I can surely understand the obsession of trying to make it even better. I keep working on my menu, because I want everything to be easy to find.
    Have a great Sunday!

  5. As a reader it is sometimes hard to stay motivated, so I imagine for fiction writers it is much the same. I know for painting my positive motivations have always been taking classes or painting in a group. And negation for motivation occurs through looking at the work of great artists – makes me think “Why Bother?”

    I like the new slider.

  6. Oh I hate weeks like that! I’ve found that sometimes I actually just have to stop and take the time to recharge or I’ll be dragging for weeks. The sliders would be driving me crazy but they are pretty! I’m glad you enjoyed the Juliette Harper. I’ve been reading her Langston Sisters series and loving it and have been wanting to try more of her books. Yay for the interview! I saw the email you sent but this week has been crazy and I never got the time to actually look for it. It looks great!

  7. I love the sliders! I’m toying with different new themes for my blog. Been with the same one for several years. I’m just afraid of what I’ll lose. LOL I know just enough to be a danger to myself:) You are so busy. Thanks for taking time to visit my blog.

    • ohhh I am indeed a danger to my blog. I have messed it up BIG many times 🙂 btw… you don’t need to do anything to your blog! is one of my favorites designs around

  8. I wish I had more energy at night to do bloggy things beyond checking out blogs and commenting. Work just drains and I’m lucky if I can stay awake through dinner most nights.

    Have a good week, Daniela.

  9. Being so busy you don’t feel like doing anything at all is hard! But it does happen sometimes, and at least that week is over. Hopefully this week will be better, Daniela.
I am finally happy with my blog the way it is, so I don’t think I’ll be making any changes for a while. And I don’t have the skill-set to do much myself… thank goodness for Ashley for her UBB stuff, and some other bloggers I’ve used for designs 🙂
Enjoy your new books and have a fantastic week.
