Beautiful People February – Valentines Edition

characters relationship

As you may already know, I’m participating in Beautiful People, a monthly blog meme hosted by Sky @ Further Up and Cait @ Paper Fury. Every month they post 10 questions for us aspiring authors to answer.

This month the questions were relationship-theme and… oh… [sight] I wasn’t sure how to go about it because I’m writing a dark fantasy/dystopian/apocalyptic novel and there is not a lot of romance going on! Also, my first draft is so far from being ready… But… ok… I chose a couple that may make it to the final draft.. and here they are…

Meet Seth and Raw [short for Rawah]. These two models remind me of them…

  • Seth

Raw is one of my Daughters of the Desert and Seth is a soldier to whom she is married, against her will of course!. 🙂

And these are the questions…

How did they first meet? At their wedding.

What were their first impressions of each other? They just saw each other for the few minutes it took her parents to sign the marriage contract. Raw was a five years old child bride,  way too young to understand what was happening. Her mother told her Seth was her prince, like the one in the fairytales she read her at bed time. Seth thought Raw was very smart for being so young. He admired that.

How long have they been a couple? They are not really a couple yet. Raw stayed with her parents until she was a teenager. Now they are sending her to live with Seth.

How committed/loyal are they to each other? Would they break up over a secret or a disagreement? Could stress drive them apart? Would they die for each other? Raw deeply resents Seth because he married her when she was just a child. Seth would definitely die or kill for Raw. She is his wife after all.

List 5 “food quirks” they know about each other. (Ex: how they take their coffee, if they’re allergic to something, etc….and feel free to mention other non-food quirks!)

Raw knows that…

  1. Seth married a FIVE years old child! It can’t get any quirkier than that! That’s just wrong and creepy
  2. On top of that, he is a stalker! He has stalked her ever since they got married (that means for years!)
  3. He has a very violent side of which she wishes she wasn’t afraid, but she is. Very.
  4. There is a certain serenity in him that drives her crazy. He should not be at peace with himself!

Seth knows that…

  1. Raw has a very short temper and even her two older brothers are a little afraid of her
  2. She is brave enough (and foolish enough) to try to escape from him and to almost get herself killed protecting her best friend Laila.
  3. She hates the cold but she still likes to walk to and from school even in the winter
  4. She makes the best sand castles he has ever seen.
  5. Her and Laila liked to pretend they are Disney princesses and Raw always wants to be Merida

Does anyone disapprove of their relationship? She disapproves! Yup! Raw and the billions of people in the world against child marriage.

What would be an ideal date? hummm… if they survive everything that I will throw at them in the book, and if she ever trust him, and if she ever falls in love with him, if they find a safe place to hide, after all those IFs… maybe he will… nahhhh! that’s it! I don’t want to spoil it! 🙂

What are their personality dynamics? Similar? Contrasting? Do they fight a lot or mesh perfectly? They have very similar personalities. They are both strong-willed and passionate but their personalities manifest in opposite ways. She is very outspoken and he is very reserved.

What have been their best and worst moments together as a couple? hummmm… They have plenty of bad moments, and just a couple of good moments, but I can’t tell! 🙂

Where do they see themselves and their relationship in the next few years? nope they don’t see themselves together 🙂

Hope you enjoyed these characters relationships questions! What about you?

What do you like to see in characters relationships? What makes you root for two characters to get together?

Reading bookshelf

Well I managed to fractured my reader mind again! I’m reading six books at the same time:

And that is because I got an avalanche of books last week from the library, real, audio and eBooks…

IMG_1331 (1)ebooks

And, on top of that, now that NetGalley and I are BFFs, I’m back at being a  NetGalley clickmaniac. I guess I like the “your request have been approved” feeling a little too much 🙂 SMH!!!!

So I have THREE new ARCs…

Waaaay too many books! It is going to take me forever to finish one 🙁

So this is like the perfect moment to sign up for…

At least I was able to finish Cinder and Awakening. Happy to announce they were 5-star and 4-star respectively. Reviews coming soon!

What about you? what new books did you get? What are you reading now?

  1. Love that airship pic! And your models look like they would be interesting characters. Sounds like an interesting story.

I don’t think I could read that many books at a time LOL. My brain would get fried. But at least you have choices. Enjoy your week!

  2. Well that sounds like quite an interesting relationship. I can already feel the tension, what with his violent side and whatnot! Are they the main characters, or side characters?

You’d better get to reading those books you got, they all expire soon! Lol that just looks stressful to me, and I’m not even the one borrowing them.

I’m considering getting that Fury’s Kiss book, but I’m kinda busy enough with a few other ARCs and things at the moment as it is, and the reviews have me feeling kinda meh about it, but I’ve never read about Furies before, and that aspect seems fun. But truth be told, I’ve got like seven ARCs bookmarked because I feel very unsure about all of them lol. And two pending ones I requested weeks ago are killing me! But yay, I’m glad you’re BFFs with Netgalley now 😛

    • Seth and Raw are secondary characters that’s why this was a hard questionnaire because I really haven’t develop them yet!, let alone their relationships LOL.
Though Raw is the secondary female character I mentioned I was liking more than the main Character.
The violent/serene Seth’s dichotomy… he got very violent when someone tried to “rescue” Raw from him because he is very assertive and aggressive [he is a soldier in the Middle East]. But for the most part the few times they have interacted he had a very “I’m not doing anything wrong” laid back attitude that really doesn’t help with the tension between him and Raw. Other than marrying a child he doesn’t have much to be ashamed of because he is kind of a hero for many people, many women included so that’s why he is “at peace with his choices” for the most part

They are not meant to be a couple. The child bride issue is more of a plot device, but now of course the romance reader/writer in me can’t help but toy with the idea of Seth winning Raw’s heart 🙂

I did notice Fury doesn’t have many good reviews. I hesitated too but I requested it because it is set in New England which is one of my setting of my book and because I think one of my fantasy characters may end up being a fury [and trying to decide between a witch, a succubus or a fury]. Yup NetGalley is like my snobby queen bee BFF from high school 🙂
Thanks for the great comment and Hope you enjoy your ARCs!

  3. Raw and Seth sound interesting! And you sound very passionate about them, which is great!

I cannot believe you’re reading 6 books at once. How do you do it? I worry when I read two similar books one after the other, in case I get elements confused before I review them!!!!

  4. You have Steelheart!!! Can’t even remember what else I was going to say because I just love Sanderson’s books (I finished the sequels to Steelheart this month and absolutely loved them!) Have a great week and happy reading!

  8. Your WIP sounds fairly dark, Daniela, but I actually love dark… Raw sounds great, and even if Seth married her when she was just a child, at least she stayed with her parents until she was a bit older than five years old 😉
I hope you’ll love Red Rising as much as I did. And wow, those audiobooks that will expire soon make me sad for you…
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  9. Great books! 🙂
I just reread City of Bones and am hoping to read City of Ashes this month 😀

  10. I’m not too excited about city of ashes. It may be a DNF but I hope you enjoy it 🙂

  11. NetGalley has stalled out on me! I’ve requested two books and I haven’t been approved or turned down. It’s been several weeks! Just make a decision!

  12. I don’t know how you read 6 books at once – I am so envious. Sometimes I will have two going at the same time but I am pretty much a one at a time reader. Hey, if you ever want to do anymore blogger interviews, let me know. I look forward to reading the ones you have already completed!

  13. An arranged marriage is always a good time! That’s funny tough … I’d totally stalk someone I knew I’d HAVE to marry. I’d want to know everything about them. lol

  14. Hi Daniela! Wow, your featured couple is definitely one of the more out-of-the-ordinary sets I’ve seen for February’s Beautiful People. I mean, an arranged marriage? And a child marriage at that? It’d be interesting to see how their relationship progresses now. I think I’d be on Raw’s side–let’s get out of here! XD

(By the way, I am SO sorry that I took so long to come check out your post after you commented on my blog. I’ve had a crazy couple of weeks.)

  15. I knooooow right??? My first instinct would be to root for Raw! like “go girl! Teach that bastard a lesson!” but since I know WHY he married her… oops spoiler alert!
Funny thing is these were two secondary characters and now I’m sooo invested in writing their story I think I either going to have to write a sequel just about them or make them my MCs.

  16. They sounds like they would make for a great couple once they can get over the issues, it sure is an unconventional romance. And with the whole child marriage thing I understand why lots of people are against them, but as you picked them for this post i do have hope they get to be a real couple who cares about each other eventually. It does sound like like an interesting combination of personalities and I like how they do know a lot about each other already.

I really enjoyed The Stars Never Rise! Marked in Red is still on my to-read list, but I heard great things about the series.

  17. It is going to be HARD to get these two together because how tragic their story is but even I’m rooting for them now 🙂

  18. Oh it is interesting! 😀
First meeting was at their wedding..
Now I am curious about how their relationship develop 😀

  19. Seth and Raw sound really interesting! What time period is their book set it in? Because at first they seemed in a fantasy world, but then you mentioned child marriage is very disapproved of in this world. I’m not sure what Seth has to gain by a child marriage and why his parents would agree to it. Do a lot of people approve it in their world? Best wishes writing them!
